Depression looks different for everyone

Depression can occur for many reasons, including sudden and drastic life changes such as job loss, career change, divorce, or the death of a loved one. It can also occur as a result of trauma, or physiological changes such as menopause. It is normal to respond to difficult situations and times with sadness and even a loss of hope for the future. However, if symptoms continue over several months, consider seeking counselling support.

Depression does not have to have a reason

Depression can also occur for no apparent reason, which can feel confusing if everything is going well. Certain personality types are more prone to depression than others. A family history of depression, childhood traumas, or losses that happen in adulthood can all impact your experience with depression.

Reasons why someone may be struggling with depression include:

  • Relationship difficulties
  • A history of depression in the family

Depression Counselling Surrey

Depression can feel debilitating and leave you feeling drained of energy, hopeless about the future, and wondering how you will make it through another day. Or, you may be able to go about your usual daily activities but feel no enjoyment or motivation. Counselling has been proven to be as effective as medication and will help you with your mental health and other areas of your life.
